Acne
Acne is the leading reason for visiting a dermatologist, often due to the psychological impact it can cause. It is an inflammation of the hair follicle and sebaceous gland. At the base of each hair is a sebaceous gland that produces sebum. In the case of acne, this gland becomes blocked due to an excess or excessive thickness of sebum. Additionally, the cells at the entrance of the follicle react abnormally, leading to an imbalance in the skin's microbiota. Acne typically appears during puberty under the influence of sex hormones, affecting mostly teenagers but also adults. It primarily appears on the face, neck, and chest, with a specific pattern: it more commonly affects the back in men and the lower face in women, who may experience an excess or dysfunction of their male hormones.
